There should be more time for each participant to speak, instead of one participant talk for half of the course.
Very interesting class ;)
Learned new ideas from both classmate and Paul.
Everytime we discussed new thoughts through articles from Economist. It was fun and interactive. I will recommend this class to anyone who would like to practice their speaking ability and gain new knowledge.
Inspiring, insightful, Paul's class is highly recommended.
Not exceeded my expectations! The facilitating style is rather 1-1 than a discussion among classmates. Maybe it's doing it online compromises the experience.
Paul knows how to encourage students to have a discussion. Be prepared, I bet everyone can learn a lot in this class, especially for those people from social science background since Paul gets tons of knowledge and insight that would impress you.
Paul is a very knowledgeable and patient teacher. In the class you have lots of opportunities to speak and express your thoughts. Highly recommend the class!
This is the most demanding English class I've ever attended. It's challenging both in English and background knowledge. The experience of struggling to survive the class motivated me keep learning. I'll keep broadening my horizons and try this class again.
Articles are challenging but preparation is the essence of the lesson.
Paul is a decent, wise gentleman with great sense of humor.
It was nice discussing serious topics with the group and learn different opinions from him.
Paul is really a teacher who has passion on teaching, also has a patience to listen to the students. I enjoyed the class, and also got different ideas on things.
Paul is a very cool, humorous British guy who really good at leading discussions and inspiring insights
Thanks Paul. Enjoy this class.
Certainly, it's the most challenging and stressful class that I've ever taken at MDT. I acknowledge my English ability (listening and speaking) isn't good enough as my classmates and to catch up with Paul's speed. But I really enjoyed this inability (能力不足) ha. Keep going. More importantly, thanks indeed for my classmates' (Jane, Jasmine, Joshua, Hannah) tolerance.
This class can help you understand the international affairs given Paul's strength on politics. Reading The Economist also widens your views, but students are supposed to read study materials beforehand so as to participate in the class. This class is best suited for ones who would like to be familiar with International relations!
It's the second time to join Paul's class ans it's as great as usual.
It's been a great time joining Paul's class. He not only provides us very solid and insightful point of view, but to encourage each of us to express our opinion accordingly. Highly recommend to those who have interest in the topic of economy and news.
Paul is a great teacher who can guide us on what to discuss about and also give us basic knowledge about the articles when it comes to a rather difficult topic.
I have been to many of Paul's classes, always had a great time. Especially enjoyed when I got a chance to present an article, always a great practice to my English ability. I use English at work and Paul's class definitely helps.
Great sessions, enjoyed the discussion and the inspiring ideas. Good for maintaining English ability and great to polish thinking skills.
Great teacher, awesome classmates, compelling discussions.
Paul was so engaged into the discussion that he forgot the time quite often. It’s ok that we had good talk and learned with more in-depth knowledge. So just a minor suggestion that we may just need two articles each week, three is too many that we don’t have enough time to go through all of them. XD
Paul is a great teacher who's good at facilitating discussion, students had equal chances to express their opinions as well as practice English. Sessions were not too challenging, it might be better if we focused on 2 articles instead of 3.
Good orientation for the Economists and world trends
Paul leads an interactive discussion and encourages full student participation. I also enjoy the thought-provoking questions raised by Paul.
Interesting point of view from the West.
Absolutely wonderful experience attending Paul's classes. I've signed up for a couple of Paul's classes including the Economist and the Western Democracy. Paul is the sort of teacher that passes his passion and thirst of "knowing things for the sake of knowing" to the attendees, which I suppose has positive impact on me. Apart from that, Paul has this sense of humor that makes attendees laugh, which makes the classes more enjoyable when people would think that the classes are somewhat too serious to participate in!
Paul's classes are always fun, he knows very well about the UK as a scholar, and also as a British. The classes are relaxing, but also informative, I learned a lot in the class and now I feel like traveling in London:)
The discussion class is just like a casual seminar where people are very welcome to exchange ideas and thoughts. A good platform to learn how to think logically and more critically. Paul lead the conversation and invited us to respond to the questions or topics brought out by any participant in the class.
Paul is knowledgable and great teacher/ facilitator.
As a student who is very interested in economics and politics but know little about them, it was a great class for me to listen to classmates' opinions and then discuss with the teacher and classmates. I've learned a lot. The class was intense as students need to read a lot and prepare for discussion in advance. That's what an advanced student would want to , at least it is to me. Thank you Paul!
