這堂課肯定有機會開口說英文，但我覺得寶貴的是可以學到美國人思考邏輯，上課文章有政治、經濟、科技、醫療等，每次都能從ALEX那邊聽到一些美國人思考邏輯，相對於台灣人來說非常跳躍的，ALEX也引導我們除了新聞的論點以外，我們可以再跳躍的思考哪些層面。希望下次能再參與critical thinking class!

The Thought of Karl Marx: Understanding Capital
What I learnt the most from this class would be as following: 1. The main events and works of Marx's life. 2. Grasp some key concepts: socialism, historical materialism, labor, labor power, value, surplus value, class, exploitation, class struggle, capital, capitalism (by David Harvey's definition), capital as value in motion (production, realization of value, accumulation) 3. Marx's concrete political program on the basis of scientific socialism: Be for great precision (be precise in what I want), e.g. Marx's concerns about the length of normal working day and prohibition of child labor. 4.Dialectical thinking: contradictions as a whole co-existing and inherent in the structure; dynamic in the process Several contradictory pairs of key terms: use value & exchange value; forces of production & relations of production; class consciousness & false consciousness (coined by György Lukács); relations of class. 5. Try to be precise in what sort of world I want to live in: aim to transfer productive resources to common ownership.

Understanding Economics is for Everyone
Thanks for Alex's teaching. I learned a lot from Mr. Ha-Joon Chang's video lecture and your teaching with great insights. 1. I learned some key theories and basic assumptions from a developmentalist economist, quite different from dominant, mainstream neoclassical and neo-liberal economist view. Kind of critical perspective to know economics I think. 2. A great introduction for people to understand economics, fewer mathematical models, graphs and numbers, making it easier to get into economic world. It's quite suitable for me, a economic outsider. 3. I get to know how the current financial market works and the real world has been built up. Also, the financialization, penetration of financial logic into everything. People rigidly stick to some ideologies so that they are easily unaware of viewing the world through their financial lens. 4. Mostly interestingly for me, it's the interdisciplinary studies, comparison between mainstream economist and Karl Marx's view about production and distribution. 5. So happy to find some allies (?) and we may work together to organize and mobilize people in the future...lol
